Expanding Our Rooftop Solar Array: Another Step Forward in Sustainability
At IONICON, sustainability is a core value we continuously work toward. We are grateful that our PTR-TOFMS instruments are utilized by researchers and environmental scientists worldwide to monitor emissions, track air quality, and provide insights into climate change and industrial safety. Because our instruments support vital environmental science, we believe it is our responsibility to apply those same ecological principles to how we build them.
A while ago, we took a practical step in this direction by installing an array of solar panels on our company’s rooftop in Innsbruck. This built upon our long-standing practice of sourcing 100% of our electricity from renewable energy (primarily Austrian hydropower) to keep our operational footprint as low as possible.
Knowing there is always room for progress, we recently decided to expand this rooftop solar setup.
By adding more panels to our roof, we can now capture more local sunshine to power our facility directly. This additional self-generated, clean energy goes straight into supporting our everyday workflow:
- Production & Testing: Powering the development of our PTR-MS trace analyzers.
- Daily Operations: Running our main office spaces and development labs.
- Climate Control: Maintaining efficient cooling throughout the building.
We are glad to continue investing in our home here in Innsbruck. While there is always more work to be done in reducing our environmental impact, expanding our solar capacity helps ensure our daily operations better align with the goals of the scientific community we serve.
