The goal was to determine which specific molecules are responsible for the distinct fruity flavors of each bear and how to trace them in real time.
Our Ioni-bears come in six vibrant colors, each corresponding to a unique flavor profile. The experiment followed a carefully designed protocol: participants first provided three blank breath samples to establish a baseline. They then chewed one Ioni-bear and exhaled five times for breath analysis. After rinsing their mouth with water (documented with two additional blank measurements), they chewed a differently flavored Ioni-bear and provided five more breath samples. This cycle – chew, measure, rinse, repeat – was continued with all the different bear flavors to capture the volatile compounds released after consumption.
The measurement successfully identified key molecular ions that allow each Ioni-bear flavor to be distinguished from the others. These ions are the protonated form of the flavor molecules, detected in the participant's breath.
