IITM Delhi deploys IONICON FUSION PTR-TOF-MS & CHARON for atmospheric research
We are happy to share an update from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM). They have recently deployed our advanced mass spectrometry technology to push the boundaries of atmospheric research in Delhi. Here is an overview provided by the IITM team detailing their new setup and vital research objectives:
“The IONICON FUSION PTR-TOF-MS integrated with CHARON establishes a state-of-the-art platform for molecular-scale characterization of atmospheric organic compounds at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Delhi Branch. Dr. Sachin Ghude and his team, including Mr. Sujit Maji and Dr. Ravi Yadav, are leveraging this unique capability to measure gas-phase volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and particle-phase organics with high sensitivity, mass resolving power, and temporal resolution. Their research focuses on unraveling atmospheric oxidation pathways, gas–particle partitioning, multiphase chemistry, emission source characterization, molecular-level source apportionment, and secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation. By generating high-resolution observations of reactive carbon across both gas and particle phases, the team aims to advance the understanding of air quality, photochemical ozone formation, and climate-relevant atmospheric processes, while providing valuable datasets for atmospheric chemistry research across the Indian subcontinent and South Asia.”
